Rosa Meza Ms. Ha Puente English 2, Period 6 4 April 2017 DACA “Trump described DACA as one of the most difficult subjects he’s facing…” according to news casters of CNN. What is DACA and why is Trump trying to ban it? I chose this topic because I have friends and who are immigrants and my research on DACA can be useful to them. Tis topic is very important to me because i want to know, in what way can I help protect them and in a way that they can pass on my knowledge so they too can help protect their loved ones and pass on their information. The more information that goes around, the more people that become aware of our causes so that others can learn what to do if, for example ICE were to come to their home, or even if people wanted to help out DACA and invest in the program.Considering our current presidency and government, we should think about helping our Dreamers, stand up and protect one another as a community. DACA-meaning Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals- is being targeted by Donald Trump because this program permits ‘Dreamers’ from being deported. According to an article (created by CNN reporters, Steve Almasy and Cathrine E. Shoichet) DACA: 10 Questions on program that protects ‘dreamers’, The program was created for “undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children.” Obama made this program possible by “signing the 2012 executive order.” Although this program was created for the immigrants, there are requirements meaning their main focus is for the Dreamers. The term ‘Dreamers’ comes from the DREAM Act, created in 2001, which helps them attend college or join the military. The requirements according to CNN authors are “an applicant must have arrived in the U.S. before the age 16 and lived there since June 15, 2007.” This program helps them also obtain driver's licenses and legally secure jobs because the former president wanted these “dreamers” to have a chance of freedom. The problem wit DACA at the moment is that current president, Donald Trump, wants to deport all these immigrants. The thing is he has to get rid of the program because it's the only thing stopping him from deporting the majority of immigrants. There are many options where people can get involved from keeping trump from doing this. If the community gets involved, the people can take charge in the way where we will still have DACA and the DREAM Act still around. One way people can take charge is protests. Sure protests aren't the safest or fastest way but it's a start. An alternate solution could be taking our concerns to the local city hall and convince them to be for DACA that way they can also get state representatives for the program so by the time this gets to D.C. this program could be an interesting topic they wouldn't want to give up on. Doing this could benefit those many immigrants or dreamers who wanted that one job or get into that one college they heard about as kids. The whole purpose of this program was to give some benefits to the ones who are considered less fortunate. Even though protesting isn't the most effective it's the most realistic and it's a good beginning. Prostesting will give us a chance to spread our word. We can spread our knowledge to all these people and show them the true meaning of DACA and what tey do for their Dreamers. This is most likely the quickest way to spread word considering the protests in the past word goes around fast and the faster the knowledge goe, the faster we will get people to realize that this program has to be saved. For example the women's rights march this cause was all around the country and considering it was more important to many tan trumps inauguration says something. So if we can start a protest just as a beginner for this cause then soon enough our city hall officials will take it up to the representatives and up to D.C. We need to be heard as a community to vote against immigration and vote for DACA to stay alive. I believe that this society really needs to wake up and learn about what is really going on these days. If DACA or the DREAM Act were to be taken down; neighbors, friends, family, or coworkers could all be affected. This community wouldn't be the same without all these different variations of people with different lifestyles,or different opinions. Getting rid of DACA for all you know could be getting some of the smartest people who could come to be. This would definitely make a big impact on the community. If people were to invest their money into DACA, they would help more of these immigrants get into college, get a job or even get into the military. The whole purpose of DACA is to help these children and young adults live a better life.
